Worth Maltravers (Seacombe) to Chapman’s Pool (Hill bottom) (Part of Section 68 in the South West Coastal Path Guide)

Total 8.75km 5.75 along the coast

We needed to get back to home in the afternoon and so planned only a short walk this morning. Again a beautiful day, when we saw the sunrise from our pitch in the campsite. We drove the short distance to Worth Maltravers, past the duckpond to a little car park at Renscombe farm, and were pleased to that Frodo, official height of 2m did fit under the barrier that said 2.1m.

A short walk back to the pretty village and then down a pleasant rural path, passed passive cows to the path signposted to Winspit. The views along this part of the coastline continue to be impressive, bit occasionally the slightly slippery muddy path with severe cliffs was a little worrying.

After a couple of miles we reached St Adlems Point, where there is another old Coastguard station, now manned by Coast Watch observers. There is also an interesting little chapel that we had visited on a previous trip.

From here we could see another 7 cruise ships anchored in Weymouth bay, making a total of 12 so far, I’ll let someone else to work out the value of these assets floating, but earning nothing in the channel.

The Coastal Path from here filled the top of the cliffs, but includes the first steep “down and up” path with steps and so good aerobic exercise, and quite dramatic. Very good views to Chapman’s Pool, which with the sunshine looked like Greece, though the Cold East wind reminded us it was October in England.

Thinking ahead we continued on the Coastal Path down to Hill Bottom as a good point to resume our walk another day, before walking up the track to the car park.
