Abbotsbury to West Bexington
5.9km along the coast and 7.3km inland
So for on our walk we have been lucky with the weather, but, having booked a campsite at Highlands End, Eype some time ago, and with a poor forecast for the next few days we set off from home quite early and parked our van at the Beach car-park at West Bexington. (Just Park £5 for 8 hours)
It is a pleasant walk through the village and onto the South Dorset Ridgeway (Singed SDR).
This took up to a Hill fort, surrounded by bluebells. Then along the ridge, although there should be excellent views back to Chesil bank and Portland, they were rather obscured by the rain and hail, driven by a strong wind.
We descended to Abbotsbury following the Macmillan Way, that we had followed in 2015 with some friends who had walked from Bath. So back to Abbotsbury for a sandwich for lunch in the rain.
The path comes down from the village and then follows Chesil Beach, starting as a high ridge and gradually the path and rough road climb above the beach.
The landward side of the shingle is a rare habitat and as it was May, the thrift, campion and sea kale were all flowering along the margin between the beach and track which lead us back to the car-park at West Bexington.
