2022-06-16 Looe to Polperro

8.56km along the coast, 0.75km inland and about 7km by bus

Having had a rather difficult time with the busses yesterday we thought that today would be easier and so drove to a huge car-park at Crumplehorn, just North of Polperro, to discover that the likes of “Ringo” have not reached Cornwall and the car-park only worked on coins, and rather a lot of them, however they did provide a change machine!

So having found the bus-stop (No useful signposts) we waited for the 10:28 No 73 bus, only to discover from the app, after it was due to arrive that it had been cancelled. So had a little walk around and then caught the 10:58, also late, bus to Looe.

We mistakenly go off at East Looe and, as the ferry was not running at low tide, walked back to West Looe to buy a croissant and coffee, so it was after 12:00 that we started along the coastal path.

The first part of the path follows a road, and as it offered free parking on both sides of the road was obviously a popular place to park. The path then continues through Hannafore Nature reserve, which is open access and  with the occasional set of steps, both up and down and then to Talland Bay, where there is road access to a car-park and a couple of cafes.

We stopped here for a swim in the clear, but still cold, sea and a picnic lunch, though a rook and a seagull ad first helped themselves to a smoked salmon roll from my open rucksack.

Only another mile and a half on to Polperro – a very pretty harbour, but almost surrounded by holiday-lets and “fiddle shops” – we do have a huge sympathy for locals who would probably be unable to rent or buy accommodation locally.

We walked up through the village and back to Frodo, for the rather slow drive along narrow road to our next campsite at Polruan.
