2022-06-17 Polperro to Polruan for Fowey

12.5km along the coast, 1.72km inland and about 9km by bus

After our difficulties on the busses for the last couple of days, we thought today’s bus ride would be easy – and apart from the app suddenly showing our bus had disappeared, it all went well. We caught the 481 bus from Polruan to Crumplehorn, the car park and transport hub for Polperro.

Having talked to a man whose job was to try to enforce ban on non-approved vehicles going down to the village, we walked down. At about 10am it was still quiet, and at almost high tide the harbour looked prettier.

Having stopped for coffee we set out on the Coastal path. This is a classic coastal walk, with the sea on the left and various steep ascents and descents along the way. It was quite a quiet stretch, and we met a couple of people going the same way, and very few in the opposite direction.

It is rather feature-less in the main part, with a few more people where it was possible to reach small beaches. Until we came to Lantic beach – there is a National Trust car-park on the road, and a very steep path, only a quarter mile according to the signpost down to a stunning sandy pair of beaches. We were surprised how many people had made the journey on what must have been the hottest day of the year so far, however there was lots of room and we enjoyed a swim and our picnic lunch, though looking out for seagulls and rooks.

After the steep ascent back to the coastal path, which immediately descend about half the distance you have climbed, the path is fairly easy with a slow descent to Polruan, where we walked back up Fore Street to our campsite.
