2022-09-12 Par to Charlestown

4.64 km along the coast and 7.68 km inland

We were staying at the Carlyon Bay Campsite, which is almost half-way between Par and Charlestown and so walked a couple of km along quite a busy main road (A3082) where for most of the time there was a pavement. The official Coastal path continues along the main road to Par village, where we stopped last night, but we felt that there was no need to be purist and so followed a snicket under the railway line to get back to the coast, following around the industrial China clay dryers and getting to the coast at Spit Point. Where we met a couple how had enjoyed a swim in the still warm sea.

The Coastal Path then is at the edge of the Golf Course all the way to Carlyon Bay, so we took advantage and walked back to Frodo for coffee.

Then back to the path ad a fairly easy walk to Charlestown with its very narrow harbour entrance and old ships that had been a backdrop to many TV and film productions including Poldark.

Having enjoyed a pint at the Pier House, a sandwich for lunch on a bench overlooking the harbour and a “Kelly Whip” despite threatening rain, we followed an inland path and suburban road back to Carlyon Bay and so to the campsite.
