The remaining part of Section 39 and almost half of section 38 in the SWCPA handbook
8.1 km along the coast and 8.6 km inland
Another sunny morning and no rain forecast till after dark, but colder. So we drove to a car-park at Portscatho, and after having to download yet another parking app, left the car there for the day. It is a fairly easy inland walk to the road just West of Pendower beach. So, just missing a very small section of road, we started back along the coastal path.
Most of this route is a fairly easy path that closely follows the low cliffs, but it descends to Porthbean beach and then there are steps up. After passing the lookout station we cam to Porthcurnick beach and found “The Hidden Hut” on the cliffs just above. Surprisingly this open and quite busy, so we enjoyed some delicious soup.
Then on through Portscatho village and back to the Coastal Path, after passing a “boatman’s shelter”, well preserved, and a very small harbour.
The path then returns to the low cliffs and is mostly fairly level. The coast is mainly rocky until we got to another sandy beach. Behind Towan Beach is a National Trust café complete with woodburning stove.
From here we followed fairly level bridleway and footpath back to Portscatho, where there is a well stocked shop, as well as a pub and tearooms etc.
