2023-08-19 Back to Duporth and Charlestown

7.6km circular walk

On the way back from Cornwall we stopped at the Eden Project, as the tickets last for a year and it is well worth seeing more than once.

We then camped at a small “Camping Field” at Menagwins Farm on the edge of St Austell. From here we walked down to the sea at Porthpean, where there were a few people swimming despite quite a clod wind.

When we walked this length in September 2022, there was a long diversion due to landslips between Durporth and Charlestown, but we had read in the SWCPA magazine that the new path was now open, so decided to walk to Charlestown.

It is easy to see why these new sections take a long time to negotiate and construct, as the section runs between the unstable cliffs and gardens of houses (no doubt expensive) in Duporth. Although there is now a good path, the new rather oppressive fencing, no doubt required by the house owners, makes the section feel very urban.

However we were please to get to Charlestown and see the harbour at high tide in the sunshine whilst enjoying a drink at the Pier Hotel.
