No progress along the coast path

We woke up to rain and strong South-West wind at Highlands End, and just walked down to Eype Mouth and a little way along the beach. A shingle beach with steep cliffs and small rockfalls. It was too windy to safely walk along the cliff tops so returned to the campsite.

The wind had not abated in the afternoon so just had a short walk back down to West Bay and inland along the river towards Bridport this at least took us out of the wind.

The wind got even stronger overnight and it was clearly still not going to be enjoyable or safe to walk on slippery ground above the high cliffs to Golden Cap so we decided, I think for the first time, to leave the campsite early and head for home.

In September last year we had walked from Highlands End to Golden Cap, (6.2km along the coast and 7.2 on an Inland route first and then back along the Coastal Path, so we think it is only cheating a little bit to continue from Golden Cap when we come back, hopefully at the begging of June – and the weather should be better!
