9.7 km along the coast and 8.9 Inland
The remainder of section 59 in the SWCPA handbook and a little of section 58
Another sunny day in Devon and so we drove to then Kilm Lane car Park in Budleigh Salterton. From there there is an eary path up the Otter to Otterton, a pretty village that could be easily misted if we had just followed the coastal path and not had to find an inland route. From there and a little uphill road we found a footpath that srirted the holiday village and lead us to Ladram Bay. After a swim and coffee, we re-joined the coastal path.
The section between ladram bay and Budleigh Salterton is a classic coastal path, a little uphill at times, in July fringed with wildflowers and with views East to Beer Head and West to Exmouth and beyond. It was a surprise to meet our neighbours from the campsite at Salcombe Regis enjoying their lunch at a farm building.
As we got close to the Otter river we could see Frodo in the car park and thought that it may be possible to paddle across the river but as we got closer it was clear that we had to follow the path upstream to the bridge and walk back down to Budleigh Salterton. A second surprise was to meet some friends from Lymington sitting on a bench along the route.
After lunch by the Otter estuary, we walked along the Sea Front, lovely houses still and little development and the slowly up, rather smaller red sandstone hills than recently but with beautiful view and then returned to the town across the East Devon Golf course.
I am not allowed to say that we stopped for an ice cream at the Creamery in Budleigh Salterton before driving back to the campsite.
