Part of section 27 in the SWCPA handbook
8.88km along the coast and 3.09km inland and 5.6km by bus
We were staying at Trevalgan Campsite in Frodo, a good, well run family site with modern facilities and friendly staff. So we walked straight from the campsite through fields. It was a welcome change for the farmer, I think the same owner as the campsite, had taken the trouble to waymark both public and discretionary paths. This not only helps the walkers, but I’m sure reduces damage caused by people trying to find unmarked paths.
A series of footpaths took us back to Trevail Mill and then down to River Cove. Again the Coastal Path along this length is strenuous and involves climbing over boulders.
The path gets easier and the cliffs lower as we dot nearer to St Ives, and we noticed people coming from the East wearing flip-flops rather than walking boots. The view changes from cliffs to the sand of Porthmoor Beach and St Ives.
We stopped for a sandwich on Carrick Du headland, which was crowded with a group of Art Students and seagulls circling to spot and food.
St Ives was crowded as it was a Sunny Sunday afternoon and as it was low tide we could walk across the sand from the end of the Smeaton’s Pier to Porthminster Beach for a drink on the sand.
After a little confusion about the position of the bus-stop we caught the #44 bus back to Trevalgan Campsite.
