7.3km along the coast and 7.1km inland
Part of section 54 in the SWCPA handbook
Overnight the weather had completely changed from yesterday’s sunshine to rain and later wind, though still quite warm.
We walked from the campsite back through the suburbs to Shoalstone point and the Berry Head hotel, the no doubt impressive views were rather shrouded in rain, so it didn’t seem worthwhile to stop at the hotel for coffee. The rain eased as we walk to Berry Head and we made a short diversion off the coastal path to get to the head and what we had been informed was the shortest lighthouse in England. It didn’t need to be high as it was right on the high headland.
We did stop for coffee here in the Guardhouse café before continuing around the coast towards St Mary’s Bay. As the rain was showing little sign of easing, we returned to the shelter of Frodo by the shortest route for lunch.
By about 3pm the rain had eased a little and so we walked back to the path past St Mary’s Bay and along as far as Man Sands – for this length, along the top of cliff, there is a fairly good path, though muddy in places following the rain. But there was a steep slippery slope down to the beach at Man Sands, then a steady ascent to Higher Brixham before following suburban roads back to the campsite.
