2021-04-19 Durdle Door to Ringstead

5.4 km along the coast and 7.7km inland

Part of section 66 of the South West Coastal Path guide

It has been a long time, so it was a great relief that the weather was good for our next trip. Back in February we booked a “lodge” at Osmington Mills. The plan was to avoid the school holidays, but we had been lucky as our fairly cautious approach fitted in with Johnson’s “roadmap” and we were allowed to stay in self-catering accommodation.

So today we drove to the National Trust carpark at Ringstead – free for everyone, and walked along the ridge back to the Lulworth Estate’s Durdle Door campsite at Newland Farm.

Along the easy walk on the ridge you could count the people on one hand, but despite being a Monday in April when we got near Durdle Door it was quite busy.

The views of the Door are spectacular, but most of the sunbathers and crowds missed the even more spectacular views that you get from the top of the next hill.
