2024-03-21 Naniizal Bay to Sennen Cove (via Land’s End)

The remaining half of section 29 in the SWCPA handbook

8.1km along the coast and 5.8 km inland

From or Airbnb in Sennen Cove we walked first to Sennen Village, for the Spar shop, a quick look at St Sennen church and past the “First and Last” Inn.

Then a fairly short walk along the A30 to Trevescan where, despite a footpath sign, apparently into a garden, we were unable to find the path. However after a short diversion along a “Private Road” we rejoined a fairly good path at Trevilley.

From here the path lead across fields, where a more friendly farmer had marked the route by driving his tractor across the newly made ridges. Then a steep descent to rejoin the Coastal path just a little way up into the from Nanjizal where we had stopped for lunch yesterday.

From here there is a good path along the edge of the cliffs and slowly climbing until we could see the building at Land’s End. The path improves and is obviously well used as the scale of the Lands End complex dominates and we passed a compound housing “exotic” animals. Mainly ponies and sheep with a few Alpacas as far as we could see from the path.

The coastal path goes around most of the complex until you reach a small circular structure where there used to be the iconic signpost. When we arrived there was no signpost (and no photographer). We walked past the hotel into the complex – a cross between a retail park and a there park “The Land’s End Experience” with all the buildings looking inward to the pedestrian walkway and no views of the coastal landscape. However it was not busy and we had a good cup of coffee and cake in the hotel, overlook a view of the “End”

When we came out of the hotel, the signpost had emerges, along with ropes to keep people away – it was obviously being set-up for a wedding with the names of the bride and groom added to the signpost. Just beyond is another retail opportunity – the “Signpost Shop” and another “First and Last – refreshment hut”

As we continued along the Coastal path the crowds (actually not many) dissipated but a good path continued until we came to the steps leading down to Sennen Cove.
