2026-09-08 Sandymouth to Duckpool cottage

The  a small part of section 13 in the SWCPA handbook

2.1km along the coast and 5.1km Inland

The forecast earlier was for rain most of the day, but as it turned out the rain came earlier and mostly during the night. So we made a slow start and didn’t start walking from the mobile home, where we are staying for 4 nights at Sandymouth, until after lunch.

As we had discovered previously, it is a long and faily steep road down to the beach at Sandymouth, where there is a Nation Trust café and car-park. From here the path takes a fairly gentle ascent to start, on grassy cliff, and then gets steeper.

It was getting more windy so the bay at Sandymouth looked impressive and the views to the North are s strange mixture of grassy cliffs and the radio dishes of GCHQ. As often on the path around here, there was one fairly steep descent and then ascent until we could see the car-park at Duckpool cottage below. The path had been improved to make mor zig-zags to descend to Duckpool. Here the waves were getting bigger driven by a Westerly wind.

We walked up the road and then along a series of footpaths that took us back to the holiday park, and avoided the long uphill road.
