We stayed in Frodo at Lower Pennycrocker Farm campsite, which is a fairly basic campsite in the hills above Boscastle. This was the third heatwave in England this year and we were expecting it to be hot, though it was a little misty to start.
The map showed a series of footpaths leading straight from the campsite to the main road to Boscastle. However the first part of the footpath was overgrown but passable, however it soon became impassable due to brambles and nettles. People had clearly followed the field edge rather than the footpath, but without any signage we strayed from the path before reaching a minor road then the main road to Boscastle.
We stopped at the National Trust café for a cold drink before a fairly steep climb with good views of the harbour, where children were jumping off the harbour arm into the clear and no doubt cool water.
After the climb there followed a fairly even cliff-top path before reaching a waterfall from the cliffs to an unseeable beach below. Here there were a series of steps down to a stream and of course up again. Then a narrow path on the side of a fairly steep grassy cliff. The sun was hot as it was almost mid-day and no shade, we stopped for lunch on a grassy mound.
Then on to Rusey cliff and we followed a path and then track and road back to the campsite – which was catching an increasingly strong North West wind off the sea.
