2023-08-16 Mousehole to Lamorna Cove

The remainder section 31 in the SWCPA handbook

4.6 km along the coast and 13.3 km inland

A rather confused day – after leaving the campsite at Marazion and stopping at Sainsburys, we headed towards our next campsite and found a very small parking place at Boskenna cross so left the van there and followed  a series of indistinct and unmarked footpaths towards Lamorna. Why certain farmers choose to deliberately put obstacles in possible alternative paths, rather than a simple waymark for the correct path I cannot understand.

However, we managed to find the way to Lamorna village and the pub, which was not open as it was before there advertised time of 13:00.

The path from Lamorna to Mousehole was quite different, well-marked and in some cases even with the grass mowed to show the correct path, and so we continued to Mousehole. After a drink in the garden of the Old Custom House and something to eat looking at the harbour, we continued back along the coastal path.

This short section, was rather slow, all the hazards of coastal paths, steep , sometimes uneven steps, mud and rocks to climb over but we made progress to Lamorna cove. It was high tide, so the few visitors were on the slipway.

We joined then for a quick, initially cold, swim before returning to Frodo along a much easier route following roads and passing a stone circle at Merry Maidens.
